A community pantry in Worcester has successfully applied for funding to continue its invaluable work in the local area.
Action for Children’s Tudor Way Family Hub in Dines Green applied to our Community Chest to help fund the delivery of food to its community pantry. The grant comes from a funding pot for Platform customers and local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations; applications are welcomed if their work or project directly benefits Platform customers. All applications are assessed against specific eligibility criteria by customers who sit on our Customer Voice Panel.
Action for Children’s Family Hub receives food from Fareshare, a UK wide charity which fights hunger and food waste and although the food is free, the cost of deliveries from the Birmingham depot to the Family Hub need to be covered. This vital new funding will cover two deliveries a month for the next 12 months.
Ileana Monagham, Community Health Connector at Action for Children said: “We are so grateful to Platform Housing Group for these much needed funds. The Pantry has a big impact on our families; we are able to support anywhere between 20 and 30 families with fresh fruit, vegetables and dairy products, helping them to provide a real nutritional option at meal times. The food we receive goes to families with children who are in desperate need of food. Without our help many families would struggle feeding their children; so many rely on the Pantry.”
Marion Duffy, Chief Operations Officer at Platform Housing Group said: “This is such an important and worthwhile cause and we are humbled to be able to help fund the cost of the deliveries. Unfortunately, now more than ever, families are struggling financially and it is projects like this that can offer a real lifeline to those who need it most.”
