Vacant social club building transformed into affordable housing
More vital affordable housing is now available in Worcester thanks to a project that has created homes on the site of a former social club that has been derelict since 2019.
Rainbow Hill’s Working Men’s Club – situated on Mayfield Road in the city – is now a smart residential area comprising 22 social housing apartments, made up of 16 one bedroom flats and 6 two bedroom ones.
The project started on site in October 2022 and completed this month. Safe and secure parking is available to all the apartments.
Jim Wilkins, our Senior Land Manager said : “We would like to thank all of our partners who played their part in the development of Mayfield Court. The site itself was challenging as it stands on a steep slope surrounded by residential properties. We are delighted it is now completed and look forward to families moving into these much needed affordable homes in the area.”
The site was offered to us by agent Foster, Green + Brown, a Midlands based niche residential development consultancy specialising in areas of site sourcing and affordable housing delivery. Browne Jacobson LLP – a full service law firm – were appointed to undertake the legal work on the land purchase with Midlands based Four Shires Contracting Limited undertaking the construction work. Four Shires employed Warwickshire based Masefield Architects. The Employer’s Agent was Walker Cotter.
The scheme was funded through Voluntary Right to Buy proceeds which involved Worcester City Council agreeing to those funds being used for this development.
